"Like an open amphitheater facing the south, overlooking the grand cru of Ribeauvillé, the GRUENSPIEL, one of the most qualitative finage of Bergheim, gains its poetic name from the checkerboard, expressing the heterogeneous nature of the surface soil consisting of torrential sandstone deposits, sometimes gneissic granitic, placed on a matrix of deep lacustrine Keuper marls. These features prevailing grape varieties co-planted (Riesling, Pinot, Gewurztraminer) assure the wine a phenomenal length, a slightly tannic structure, a special power gradually rounded by the minerality of hot rolled gravel: “An iron hand in velvet gloves”."
