Based in Ampuis, on the banks of the Rhône River in the heart of the Côte Rôtie region, Guigal produces a wide range of white and red wines, spanning all the main Rhône Valley appellations.
The Châteauneuf du Pape appellation is unique in that it allows a total of 13 grape varieties to be used in its wines. Guigal capitalizes on this unique feature by combining them, the three most important being Grenache (70%), Mourvèdre (15%), and Syrah (10%). This is complemented by a slow aging process in foudres for 36 months. The result is a fruity, full-bodied, and spicy red wine with very rounded tannins.
This bottle of Guigal Châteauneuf du Pape Rouge 2018 is starting to taste good and will continue to do so for a good ten years.
